RRW 629M is a pre-production Jaguar XJ-C 4.2 Coupe manual with overdrive manufactured on the 9th of March 1973. Chassis #2 - 2J50002DN used by Jaguar as a test car and driven by Mr Jim Randle Chief Engineer and designer of the XJ40 and XJ220. Recently recovered from a garden in the UK unused since 1995 and now starting a full restoration back to the original specification.

About me

I am RRW 629M the registration I left the factory with in 1973, I have matching numbers with the same gearbox, engine and chassis as I left the factory. I was used as a pre-production test vehicle and also featured in Thoroughbred and Classic Cars Magazine in the 1980's as the car driven by Mr Roger Bell also of BTCC driving fame. I have an Olive leather interior and painted in Greensand. My chassis number denotes left hand drive I was converted by Jaguar to right hand drive in 1974. I have a factory fitted manual gearbox with overdrive and my original owner was Jaguar Cars, British Leyland UK.
Having lived outside since 1995 I am now starting a complete rebuild back to my original specification - left hand drive, vinyl roof, pressed steel wheels and retaining my unique pre-production features such as extended fuel filler caps and close stitching on my seats.

I was one of fourteen hand built prototypes built in 1973 before the model was launched for sale in 1975 with production finishing in 1978 with just 10,426 XJ-Cs made.
